Shop2market's application for fashion (fashion, shoes and accessories) partly originated in France, because merchants needed an option to include proper information for the shopping engines. In France the online fashion market is much more mature than in the Netherlands.
Unlike electronics, fashion products don't use EAN codes. These codes allow comparison sites to quickly identify the products including all their specifications and, therefore, place them in the correct category or sub-category. As a consequence many products that don't have an EAN code - like fashion - are not, or not correctly, listed on the comparison sites.
Additionally, it is hard to compare fashion products on price since these products aren't equal and involve other factors, such as the brand. Comparison shopping engines are specifically used to select by product, category, target group, size, color, material, etc. If one of these selection criteria is missing, the products are no longer displayed on the comparison shopping engine. As a result, for many fashion web shops the traffic that is generated from a comparison site is very limited. In addition, each comparison shopping engine uses its own selection criteria and formats.
With Shop2market you can enrich an existing data feed with relevant content (for example, heel height, size, etc) and the channel-specific information. It is also possible to manually or automatically map products to the right (sub-)category.
For a number of our fashion customers, we have increased their traffic by a factor 10! What;s more, this traffic is also converting very well. Besides comparison shopping sites, you should also include a number of affiliates. Their relevance and target audience depend on the type of fashion. In affiliate marketing it's important to only pay a commission to an affiliate that has made a substantial contribution to the sale.
